The Legacy Project's mission is to build powerful inter-generational relationships as they connect college students with older adults in their communities. We are seeing a dramatic rise in isolation, loneliness, and disconnection, resulting in mental and physical health concerns, especially among teens/young adults and our seniors. Creating opportunities to build impactful connections between generations is key to not only mitigating the isolation but also to fostering empathy and understanding. Central to the relationships is the sharing of life experiences and stories, resulting in published books that will ensure that essential legacies are preserved, remembered, honored, and celebrated for years to come.
Advisor - Family Health Project Family Health Project had me at hello! Their work is simple with enormous impact for new Moms and littles in poverty. By providing $400 a month to new mothers to use as they need for the first 3 years, the critical years, of a baby's life- easing the burden and stress that takes a toll not only on Moms but also on their children. Poverty impacts both physical and mental well-being...but not only for Moms. Children who grow into stressful environments (starting in utero) are at risk as that stress changes their brain development and physical growth. Direct giving, trusting new Moms, helping to ease that monthly panic of how to provide essentials changes Moms, changes, children, changes families.
